Measuring Reaction Time by Using Android System

Background: The speed of your reactions play a large part in your everyday life. Fast reaction times can produce big rewards, for example. Slow reaction times (RT) may come with consequences. Reaction time is a measure of the quickness an organism responds to some sort of stimulus. You also have “reflexes” too. Reflexes and reactions, while seeming similar, are quite different. Reflexes are involuntary, used to protect the body, and are faster than a reaction. There is afferent input, efferent system and integrator (spinal cord) in reflex arc. In the reaction, numerous systems and circuits in the brain are involved, and you can train and enhance your skill through practice. There are two kinds of RT,simple RT and choice RT. There are various methods to measure RT but all of them need a multi-components mechanical or electromechanical systems.in the current study by using n simple android system the RT is measured. Objectives: The aim of this study is to provide an android software in order to measuring reaction time. Methods: This study is done with the over view form by the use of library style and the advance internet search of the scientific article in data base like PUBMED, MAGIRAN, SCIENCE DIRECT that Their full text is accessible. Results: Providing an algorithm that as an application has been implemented under the Android operating system. This algorithm execute Reaction time test several times, in which is being asked at the beginning of the test. Reaction time test will start working by touching the screen with one finger and then stop touching when a red rectangular appears on the screen. Algorithm will calculate the time between the stimulus display and picking up the finger based on milliseconds and This algorithm will execute several times, in which is being asked at the beginning of the test. The time between Reaction time testing times is randomly set. At the end the software will show the average reaction times of Reaction time test. Conclusion: With the advent of new technologies such as Android OS and ever growing population of users of smartphones throughout the world, make it necessary to utilize this OS and its related practical applications in some fields of rehabilitation science like” Reaction time “. Thus, many users can be benefited by using this application.
