The kinetics and mechanistic investigation of the reaction between dimethyl acetylendicarboxcylate (DMAD) and Meldrum’s acid has been studied in ethanol environment with triphenylarsine as a catalyst using UV/vis spectrophotometry. The reaction followed second order kinetics. In the kinetics study, activation energy and parameters (Ea, ∆Hǂ, ∆Sǂ and ∆Gǂ) were determined. Also, reaction rate is accelerated by increasing the temperature and the dielectric constant of solvent.
