Objective: Behavioral changes due to long-term, repeated administration of low-dose ketamine were evaluated in dogs.Materials Methods: Ten healthy mixed dogs aged in 8-14 months and in both sexes were designed for the present study. They received intramuscularly sub-anesthetic dose of ketamine (3 mg/kg) daily for 70 days and behavioral changes were observed and compared at days 1, 35 and 70 with the control group which treated daily with normal saline. Results conclusion: At the first week and following administration of ketamine, despite of difficulty in physical restrain, the animals calmed down for 5 to 10 minutes and a drop in length of activity time was observed. But, this sedative effect was not observed in days of 35th and 70th of the experiment. Finding data showed a competition of receiving food in the test group at days of 35th and 70th of the study compared to the beginning days. Avoidance behavior and restrain difficulties were significantly recorded in the first week of the study in ketamine group. At day 70, hyper-locomotion, hyperactivities and perimeter walking were observed compared to control group. Furthermore, showing competition in receiving the drug and complete tameness behavior were prominent. In fact, clinical sings of the drug addiction were recorded
