Objective: Pathogenic microorganisms cause disease to the eyes due to their virulence and hosts reduced resistance from many factors such as living condition, nutrition, genetics, physiology, hygiene, fever and age. Staphylococcus species are the most predominant isolate among the known and opportunistic pathogens in eye infections. The changing spectrum of microorganisms involved in ocular infections and the emergence of acquired microbial resistance dictate the need for continuous surveillance to guide empirical therapy.Material Methods: A total number of 20 pigeon with eye infection were studied. Conjunctival specimens were collected with swabs presoaked in Brain Heart infusion broth. The growth was identified by standard laboratory procedure and susceptibility testing of the bacterial isolates were performed by the Kirby-Baure method. Results Conclusion: Out of 20 specimens processed, 20% pigeons hadStaphylococcaleye infections. Also In 10% of these Pigeons, hepatic cysts with Staphylococcal etiology were also detected. The resistance pattern of these isolates showed that Staphylococcus from pigeon samples were resistant to Tetracycline(100%), Erythromycin (100%), Azithromycin (100%), Nalidixic acid(100%), Cefazolin(50%). All of Staphylococcus from pigeon samples were susceptible to Gentamycin and Furazolidone. In conclusion gram positive Staphylococcuswas the most prevalent bacteria isolated form pigeon ocular infections. Gentamycin and Furazolidone were the most appropriate antimicrobials applied in the present study
