Objectives: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic diseases .Ferulago angulata as a medicinal plant has anti-oxidant properties. The aim of the present research was to evaluate the effect of Ferulago angulata essential oil on blood glucose level in diabetic male rats. Materials Methods: The diabetes was induced by a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin at 40 mg/kg body weight. Normal and Diabetic rats were treated with intraperitoneal injection of Ferulago angulata essential oil for 3 weeks. Results Conclusion: This study demonstrated that serum levels of glucose in Ferulago angulata treated diabetic groups were significantly lower than diabetic rats (P 0/001). No significant differences were observed in the serum levels of blood glucose, in normal (non-diabetic) group treated with different doses of essential oil. These results showed that the Ferulago angulata essential oil may be effective in the treatment of diabetes and consequently might have alleviated the liver damage caused by streptozotocin induced diabetes mellitus. This effect may be due to the presence of flavonoids and their antioxidant features.
