Objectives: Hyperglycemia resulting from unregulated glucose level is widely recognized as the causal link between diabetes and its complications. In spite of the presence of known antidiabetic medicine in the pharmaceutical market, remedies from medicinal plants are used with success to treat the disease. Many traditional plant treatments for diabetes are used throughout the world. The purpose of this study was determination of antidiabetic activity of aqueous extract of skin of Walnut(Juglans). To our knowledge, this is the first study on antidiabetic properties of the plant. Materials Methods: We used 24 mice in four groups (Group 1: Diabetic control mice received STZ (50 mg/kg, i.p.) and served as the control. Group 2: Diabetic mice received glibenclamide (500 µg/kg, p.o.). Group 3: Diabetic mice received receivedaqueous extract of skin of Walnut (200 mg/kg, p.o.). Group 4: Diabetic mice received aqueous extract of skin of Walnut(400 mg/kg, p.o.)). The effect of extract on serum biochemistry such as glucose levels, total protein, total bilirubin, urea nitrogen, and Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) was evaluated. Results  Conclusion: The amount of glucose, total protein, total bilirubin, urea nitrogen, and ALT in day 16 were as follows: Group 1: 236.25±8.77, 6.20±0.40,0.35±0.17, 37.75±1.70, 40.75±6.02. Group 2: 130.20±7.85, 5.46±1.69,0.28±0.04, 34.20±4.20, 37.20±5.97. Group 3: 138.80±19.38, 6.42±0.48, 0.30±0.12, 35.10±5.50, 37.80±21.75. Group 4: 124.60±23.57,6.50±0.43, 66.46±0.28, 35.00±4.74, 38.00±2.91. As they are seen amount of glucose, urea nitrogen, total bilirubinand ALT reduced in Group 3 and 4 to Group 1 and amount of total protein increased in Group 3 and 4 to Group 1. In conclusion, our biochemical evaluations suggests the strong antidiabetic potential of aqueous extract of skin of Walnut. Its antidiabetic activity may be related to increased insulin secretion activity.
