A case report of one anterior uveitis due to rHu Erythropoietin in Dog

Introduction: CRF is one of the most common renal disease in pets. At first, some nephrons maybe have compensatory hypertrophy but if there is a primary pathogen, disease will be progress and clinical signs will be recognize. Uremia is the most common clinical sign. There is reported Oral ulcers, weight loss, Anorexia, myopathy, anemia (mucosal membrane pale) and fibrotic osteodystrophyespecially in mandible. In opposite of ARF, we have polyuria and polydipsia in CRF. Many drugs is used to treatment of dog and cats with CRF (to electrolyte balance, rehydration, blood pressure control and anemia control and …). It can be used to rHu Erythropoietin to treatment of anemia,too.Methods: In current case, among referred dogs to veterinary clinic of ShahidChamran university of Ahwaz, one unilateral anterior uveitis is seen due to rHu Erythropoietin in a 7 years old German shepherd dog (withCRF). Unilateral anterior uveitis is confirmed by clinical evaluation and using ophthalmoscope.Results: There is not any sign of retina injury (degeneration) and blindness. While clinical signs were relief with supportive (systemic and local) treatments using corticosteroids (methylprednisolone acetate and prednisone tablet) but clinicians must be attended to writing human drugs to pets, too. Maybe, ocular injuries is due to Ag-Ab complex regeneration after using human drugs for pets. Conclusion: So it is better that these animals (that are treated by human drugs) evaluated for at least future 48 hours. It is essential more evaluations especially experimental studies to confirm the side effects of rHu Erythropoietin in pets.
