Anti ulcer effects of hydroalcoholic extract from Satureja backtiarica in rat

Objectives: gastrointestinal diseases , especially peptic ulcer is the most common diseases today. In this study, the effect of vegetable extract of Satureja bachtiarica and chemical drug of omeprazole evaluated in the prevention of gastric ulcer.Materials Methods: Investigations were performed on 35 wistar rats having average weight of 200g.the rats were divided into 7 groups of 5. rats studied after 24 hours of free access to water based on following method. The first group received distilled water, the second, third and fourth group one hour before induced gastric ulcer by ethanol, received Satureja bachtiarica hydro alcoholic extract with 200, 400 and 800 mg for each kg of body weight and fifth and sixth group received carboxymethyl cellulose and omeprazole , respectively. Seventh group didn t receive anything as the control group. After ending of each period, rats become unconscious with ketamine and xylazine and after the comfort death of the animal, the stomach was removed. Part of the stomach used to measure the amount of malondialdehyde anzyme and the other part to analyze pathological studies in buffer formalin 10% Results Conclusion: The amount of malondialdehyde enzyme in fourth and sixth groups was significantly lower than first, second, third, fourth and seventh groups (p 0/05). Mucosal damage, including scratches (erosions) and scars was lower than other groups.The consumption of hydroalcoholic extract of Satureja bachtiarica by independence to dose prevented from gastric ulcer and increase of malondialdehyde enzyme.
