Kelussia odoratissima is a medicinal plant that has long been used in the treatment of inflammation and hypertension in human. To the best of our knowledge, there has been no report on the effect of K. odoratissima on pulmonary hypertension syndrome (PHS) in broiler chickens. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different levels of Kelussia odoratissima on Electerocardiography (ECG) wave amplitudes (Lead II), right ventricular hypertrophy and serum cholesterol and triglycerides in broiler chickens reared at high altitude (2100 m). In two 42-day experiments conducted in normal and cool temperatures, a total of 416 day-old male broilers (Ross 308) were assigned to four dietary treatments including 0, 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75% K. odoratissima in a completely randomized design. Results from both experiments indicated that body weight gain and feed:gain throughout the trials significantly (P 0.05) improved when K. odoratissima was included in broiler diets at 0.75%. In both experiments, K. odoratisma significantly (P 0.05) decreased S and T wavese amplitudes in Lead II of ECG. Birds received K. odoratissima at 0.5 and 0.75% had significantly (P 0.05) lower serum concentrations of cholesterol and triglycerides when compared to the birds fed the control diet.
