Objective: This study was investigated to determine the antibacterial activity of Ajowan essential oil separately and in combination with nisin on Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213 were studied.Materials methods: Essential oilsantimicrobial activity was evaluated in vitro against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213.Antibacterial evaluation of essential oil is carried out bymicro dilution MIC and interaction of Ajowan and nisin were also studied by FIC testing method.Results conclusion: The result of antimicrobial assay indicated that the MIC of Ajowan and nosing lonely against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213 is respectively 0.78 mg/ml and 7.8 IU/ml and also their MIC on Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 is respectively mg/ml 10 and 1000 IU/ml. The result of FIC factor measurement showed that the antibacterial effects of Ajowan in combination with nisin on Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 increase synergistic while the antibacterial effects of Ajowan in combination with nisin on Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213 do not change so it can be concluded that Ajowan and nisin individually have significantly impact on the antibacterial effect of Staphylococcus aureus and in combination antibacterial effects on Escherichia coli increase because of synergistic effect. So in order to enhance the antimicrobial effect of Ajowan in invitro systems especially on Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, it is suggested to blend it with nisin.,
