In the present paper, results of an experimental study on strengthening and reinforcing of steel beams under
mechanical loads have been presented. Totally, eight steel specimens with span’s lengths of 0.2, 0.5 meter were
reinforced by carbon laminates and subjected to 3-point bending load. Two failure modes of shear yielding, flexural
yielding in the beams were examined. For specimens with failure modes of shear yielding, carbon laminates are used on
web of beams and for specimens with failure modes of flexural yielding, carbon laminates are used on tensional and
compressive flanges and compressive flanges of beams, respectively. The results showed a significant improvement in
strength and ductility of steel beams.
