EVALUTION OF GROUNDWATER VULNERABILITY USING DRASTIC METHOD IN ARDEBIL PLAIN, IRAN

Recently due to increasing contamination in different groundwater levels which is a serious detrimental problem to the environment, the vulnerability assessment is a burning issue. To identify and estimate this matter there is a wide variety research by using different methods. The DRASTIC model is one of the overlay and index methods to map groundwater capability to pollution in different areas. In this study, according to DRASTIC model, an assessment of vulnerability to pollution is achieved. To use DRASTIC model, four assumptions must be considered:1) Pollution production must be generated on top of the surface study area.2) Pollution transfer must be occurred due to infiltration to groundwater.3) Water must be considered as the factor of pollution movement.5) Area location in this method must be greater than 4.5 km. The major aim of this study is to find susceptibility of different area to pollution. The methodology was applied in Ardebil in the northwest region of Iran.
