Existing navigation systems are needed spatial knowledge to interpret navigational instructions. People without having spatial knowledge cannot use these systems. So there is a need to design user-friendly and easy-to-use navigation system that any user can use in any place at any time. In this paper, a ubiquitous GIS based navigation system is designed using Augmented Reality (AR) and map-matching for smartphones. AR which combines real and virtual world creates interactive environment to enhance user perception. Map-matching is to reduce technical errors of positioning sensors of the smartphones. The designed system can provide the right navigation service to any person without any time and place limitations.
