Synthesis and uses of natural polymers as catalysts for the preparation of novel
compounds has received steadily increasing attention over the past few years [1]. High
demands are placed on the identification of new biocatalysts for organic synthesis. The
catalysis of more ambitious reactions reflects the high expectations of this field of
research. In this study, cellulose polymer plays an increasingly important role as
biocatalysts in the oxidation of alcohols, and new catalyst for green chemistry process
have been established [2].
In this work, design, preparation and development of a cellulose/manganese 2-
hydroxy-5-methyl benzaldehyde Schiff base biocomposite as a biocompatible,
recyclable and highly efficient heterogeneous biocatalyst is explained. This novel
biocatalyst was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy,
field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) image, energy dispersive Xray
(EDX) analysis and thermogravimetric analysis/differential thermal analysis
(TGA/DTA). Then, its activity was investigated in the oxidation of alcohols. The main
advantages of this clean system are high yields and short reaction times.
