Phase change material (PCM) is a material that save energy by getting melt and release it by solidification at certain temperature. PCMs have many applications like solar energy storage. In this work, shape stabilizedpolyethylene glycol (PEG) as PCM were used for the thermal energystoragein novolac type phenolicresin and nano clay was prepared.Novolac and clay act as a confinement to avoid PCM change of shape and leakagewhen it got melt.X-ray scattering patterns indicated thatnanocomposite was prepared by clay exfoliation. To investigate the leakage behavior of samples,samples were heated from 40˚C to 100˚C.In this conditions the melt PCM leakage was lower than 4 wt.%. To evaluate the performance of samples,differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was done; results demonstrate that samples havehigh encapsulation ratio and high encapsulation efficiency.Also samples have high latent heat of storage and releasewith low amount of leakage, when phase change happens.
