In recent years, use of renewable energies and especially utilizing solar energy is developed. According to geographical regions and daily solar radiation, Iran has a major potential source of solar energy that could gradually replace the energies provided by fossil fuels. The purpose of this research is a feasibility study about conditions of using solar energy instead of burning fossil fuels in Iran. Firstly, Iran’s different aspects such as geographical terms and annual solar energy’s input are discussed. Afterwards a parametric study for Iran’s status on solar energy production in comparison with other energy sources is performed. Moreover, Iran s share of renewable energy consumption has been compared to the developed countries and brief information about Iran’s current energy budget distribution is represented. In addition, an analysis on different types of solar power plants and their efficiencies are determined. Furthermore, energies resources including fossil and non-fossil sources and their initial costs are investigated and a brief status of Iran s solar energy production is studied. Finally, a solution and a proposal about investment on solar plants instead of fossil fuel and nuclear resources leading to benefits in several terms such as total increase in energy production and costs are presented.
