The Narcissistic Narrative and Its Implications in Paul Auster’s City of Glass

Linda Hutcheon, in her study, examines the modes and techniques of narcissistic narration; that is, fiction which comprises some descriptions on its own narrative and its linguistic nature. This study claims that City of Glass draws the attention of its audience less to the meaning and conclusion of its surface plotline and more to the process of narration which challenges the authority of the story. In City of Glass, the readers become the co-writer of the self-reflexive text and, at the same time, ironically keep their distance from the text.
