Cu2O nanoparticles was synthesized in the presence of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) under microwave irradiation and has been studied as a non-enzymatic glucose biosensor. Its morphology was characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometric measurments were performed to evaluate the electrochemical behaviour of glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with Cu2O nanoparticles in alkaline media. Cu2O modified electrode exhibited wide linear amperometric response to glucose in the concentration range of 5 M to 12 mM with high sensitivity of 371 µAmM-1cm-2 and low detection limit of 5 M.
