We introduce and study the concept of $\alpha$-coatomic modules (a 0-coatomic module M is just a coatomic module, i.e., each proper submodule of M is contained in a Maximal submodule of M or equivalently, for every submodule N of M, whenever J(M/N ) = M/N then M = N). Using this concept we extend some of the basic results of coatomic modules to $\alpha$-coatomic modules
