An efficient and one-pot procedure for synthesis of functionalized piperidines via multi-component condensation reactions of aromatic aldehydes, aniline and ethyl acetoacetate (molar ratio: 2/2/1) in the presence of triethylammonium hydrogen sulphate )[Et3NH][HSO4]( ionic liquid as a catalyst has been developed. Th e ionic liquid was stable during the reaction process and could also be reused several times without significant loss of its activities
