Synthesis, Characterization and Crystal Structure Determination a Copper (II) Complex Containing 1,10-Phenanthroline

A new bis-chelate complex of Cu(II) with 1,10-phenanthroline, (phen), as ligand has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV/Vis spectroscopic and the structure of [Cu(phen)2Cl]NO3. H2O has been also accomplished using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Th e crystal structure determination of the complex indicates that N atoms of two Phenanthroline ligands as bidentate ligand and a chlorine anion of NaCl salt form distorted square pyramidal coordination geometry and an uncoordinated water molecule and a anion also present in the lattice.
