Irradiance statistics in single and Double layer laboratory turbulence generators

In this study, the irradiance fluctuation of laser beam propagating thorough single and double layer phase screens is investigated. We regenerated the atmospheric turbulence artificially by phase plates and hot air chamber. Result showed the Irradiance distribution function of double layer simulators has better agreement with real atmosphere probability density function than single layers. Single layer models despite high amount of 2 n C z  are producing small values of scintillation index compared to real atmospheric models. Finally the amount of induced turbulence is estimated by fitting gamma-gamma and log normal PDF on experimental data.
