Social networking sites (SNSs) have engaged in people’s lives notably today’s school students. Some scholars argue that Social networking sites (SNSs) have negative impacts on students’ academic achievement as it may decline their academic engagement. The paper aims to investigate the relationship between students English language development and their participation in SNSs. The study chose Facebook as it is the most widespread SNS among Iranian high schools students since their popular online communication tool. After analyzing and evaluating the recent studies on the role of Facebook in developing students’ learning EFL, it was found that using Facebook has the potential to lead to the development of study EFL knowledge, build their confidence in addition to enhancing writing skills and vocabularies.
