BS5500 and ASME VIII Comparison in Quality Control Aspect

Nowadays variety of Standards and codes are used for pressure vessels design, construction and inspection. ASME Sec. VIII and PD 5500 are famous codes which generally use in industries including petrochemical, oil and gas, etc. Pressure component fabricated in accordance with these standards are designed for long period service life, with considering of safety and cost, Quality control and vessel performance. In order to improving the safety of Pressure vessel, above mentioned standards are used to control the quality of welds. This paper presents a glance review of design and detail comparison for inspection of welded vessels by tables and charts. PD 5500 with three inspection levels (level 1, 2 and 3) and ASME Sec VIII with five levels (level A to E) are compared in acceptance criteria of welds and inspection levels.
