In the present paper, a new idea for multilevel inverter is suggested to be utilized in low and medium voltage applications. The proposed multilevel inverter is able to generate higher number of levels associated with fewer power electronic switches compared to traditional inverters. The proposed circuit consists of several cells which connected in a proper topology and an H-bridge converter is added to the output in order to generate both positive and negative levels at output. The considerable advantages of proposed structure are the minimum number of switches and relevant gate drivers compared to traditional multilevel inverters which cause to reduce the overall cost and installation area. The power losses of proposed topology are obtained and its comparison results with cascade structure and recently published new topologies are presented. The operation and performance of the proposed multilevel inverter has been confirmed by simulation and experimental results of a13-level proposed multilevel inverter.
