Steel square hollow sections (SHS) are used in many engineering applications. Local buckling may occur in steel hollow sections in compression and overall buckling are also well known which occur in steel hollow section under axial compression. Aging of structures and deterioration of structural members are often reported. The use of new materials and strengthening techniques become vital to retrofitting of existing structures. Fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) as a reliable option because of its properties, have been widely used to confine steel columns for improvement in both strength and ductility. This paper presents a review of researches in the field of steel column strengthened by FRP. This study showed that FRP materials can increase the load carrying capacity of the columns considerably.
