This study is concerned on the thertmoplasmonic properties of nanoparticles with ellipsoidal shapes. The optical properties of a random distribution of nanoparticles embedded in a biological medium (dermis layer of human skin) have been simulated by means of effective medium theory. When nanoparticles illuminated, due to light absorption, nanoparticles act as nano- sources of heat. The steady state temperature of the system can be obtained by solving the heat transfer equation. We have investigated the effect of incident light wavelength and aspect ratio of nanoparticles on their temperature changes. Our results show that gold nanorods due to their efficient conversion of absorbed light energy to heat, at the visible frequencies, can be used as an amazing tool for minimally invasive photo-thermal therapy.
