2D materials like graphene with high electro-absorption mechanism,can use to acheive high extiction ratio, small footprint in optical modulator. Graphene, both monolayer and multilayer, is an actively tunable optical material. The absorption of graphene is controlable with it’s chemical potential. We proposed an opto-electronic modulator based on multilayer graphene. This device has high extinction ratio up to 27.47dB/μm and broadband performance.
