Introduction: Muscle weakness, pain, sensory impairment, limitation of motion are the most problem in people with round shoulder. The purpose of present study was to compare the effect of corrective exercise with and without physioball(PHB) on range of motion and strength of selected muscles in students with round shoulder.
Method: In this semi-experimental study, a total of 45 girl students with round shoulder (RSH) 52° with the average age of 11±0/74 years ,weight 33/36±7/7 kg and height 142/18±9/5 cm were selected. Participants did not have any history of surgery, trauma or pain in their limbs. They were divided into three subgroups, experimental1 (N= 15 with PHB), experimental 2(N=15 without PHB) and ( N=15 control) .both experimental groups performed corrective exercises for 8 weeks, 3 times/week, 35-40 min/session. In this study we used photogrammetric method technique in sagittal plane to measure the angle of the FH and Manual muscle testing(MMT) to measure the strength of internal rotation(INR) ,external rotation(EXR) and goniometer to measure the range of motion of external rotation(EXR) of shoulder. Data were analyzed by SPSS. 15 using the T- Test and Manova (p≤0.05).
Result: The results of this study showed significant improvement in rates of range of motion of EXR and strength in EXR and INR of shoulder in the both experimental groups (P 0.05) However, control group showed no significant changes. The result of MANOVA showed that there are significant differences between both experimental groups in range of motion and exercise with PHB showed better result. but there was no difference in strength in both experimental groups (P≥0/05).
Conclusion: corrective exercise with physioball and without physioball are useful for improvement of strength and range of motion of shoulder muscles in young girl students.
