Quantization of the electromagnetic field in the presence of external fields

Starting from a microscopic approach, electromagnetic field is quantized in the presence of two separated pieces of anisotropic matter. A general expression for fluctuation-induced free energy between the separated anisotropic pieces of matter is obtained.
