A magnetic KOH/Fe3O4@γ-Al2O3 nanocatalyst was prepared by supporting KOH on Fe3O4@γ-Al2O3. The catalyst was characterized by XRD and FE-SEM techniques. The transesterification of canola oil to biodiesel catalyzed by this catalyst. The effects of molar ratio of methanol to canola oil, catalyst dosage (catalyst mass/oil mass), and reaction time on the yield of biodiesel were investigated. Under the optimal conditions of reaction time 5h, molar ratio of methanol to oil 15:1, mass fraction of catalyst 6 wt.% and loading amount of KOH 30 wt.%, the yield of biodiesel reached to 97%.
