The wastewater from refining process contain high concentration of phenols pollutants; therefore it is necessary to remove phenolic compounds from the environment. Among different techniques available for removal of phenols, biodegradation is an environment friendly and cost effective method. We review biological treatment methods for phenols biodegradation, different categories of biological systems, microorganisms and operation conditions.
