One way to limit short circuit currents in distribution networks is using Superconducting Fault Current Limiters (SFCL). Resistive type
SFCL (RSFCL) is a nonlinear resistance in which is installed in series with the circuit breakers in distribution networks. In case of a short
circuit fault, its resistance increases to a certain value automatically to limit the short circuit fault currents to a lower level in which the
circuit breakers can handle. In this paper, we investigated the application scheme of Resistive type SFCL in 20 KV side of the 63/20 KV
West Ardabil Distribution Substation when a symmetrical three phase short circuit fault are occurred because in more conditions
symmetrical three phase short circuit faults have the highest short circuit current levels. We have studied using Resistive type SFCL in
three position as installed in loads lines, in transformers lines and in tie bus.
