Formation and destruction of clusters in the freeboard has extensive impact on the hydrodynamics
of a fluidized bed. In this study, fiber optic probe and discrete wavelet analysis have been used to
predict cluster size distribution in the freeboard of a fluidized bed. Furthermore, clusters size
distribution has been investigated at different axial and radial positions. The cluster size
distribution became wider in higher axial position, indicating the size of clusters increase. Also,
size of the clusters decreases in the vicinity of the wall. The result in this study can be used to
identify the hydrodynamics of the fluidized bed.
