The effect of modified magnetic nanoparticles on hydrodynamic and mass transfer of the liquidliquid
extraction process was investigated. Mass transfer coefficient of acetic acid from toluene
drops to the continuous aqueous phase was obtained. Single layer oleic acid-coated Fe3O4
nanoparticles were used. For the acetic acid analysis, titration method was used. The rate of
mass transfer is closely depends to the Brownian motion and electrical double layer in the drops
which causes turbulence and subsequently, mass transfer coefficient increases. Mass transfer
coefficient first increases and then decrases rapidly with increased of nanoparticle
concentration. The maximum mass transfer with about 0.002 wt % nano materials provides the
highest rates for different drop sizes.
