Experimental tie-line data for the {water + 1, 3-butanediol (1, 3-BD) + decanol} and {water+ 1,3-
butanediol (1,3-BD) + 2-ethyl-1-hexanol} were determined at T = 298.2 K and at atmospheric
pressure. A type 1 (liquid + liquid) phase diagram was obtained for these ternary systems. The
experimental tie-line data for these ternary systems were correlated with the NRTL model.
Experimental data indicated that 2-ethyl-1-hexanol was chosen as the best solvent for recovering
1,3-butanediol from aqueous mixtures.
