Analysis of Fence Effects on Step and Touch Voltages of Wind Turbines

Usually fencing is used for physical protection of wind turbines against forbidden entrance, but it can produce major problems when some electrical effects are ignored. In this paper fencing around wind turbines will be analyzed and its effects on personal safety, step and touch voltage will be investigated. For this reason, two main methods will be studied. The first case considers fencing around boost transformer and the second one considers fencing around wind turbine and boost transformer. For both cases, the fence could be connected to the grounding system of wind turbines or could be isolated. Each case has some effects on step and touch voltage which will be analyzed by CYM software. Based on the obtained results, the proper fencing around wind turbines will be proposed.
