A preliminary investigation is done in order to evaluate the possibility of incorporating falling film
reactors for gas hydrate formation. A rocking cell containing a thin layer of water is used to create
falling film condition. Two sets of experiments are carried out to compare induction time and
hydrate growth rate in falling film condition and stationary film condition. Experimental results
show that using falling film of water in the reactor reduces induction time and the minimum
supersaturation required in the system for massive hydrate growth to occur. It is also observed that
the apparent rate constant for hydrate growth is an order of magnitude higher in falling film
condition compared to stationary film condition.
