Zergan power plant in the vicinity of Iranian oil reservoirs is one of the major stationary carbon
dioxide sources in south west Iran. The captured carbon dioxide from this power plant can be used
for enhanced oil recovery in oil wells. The process of carbon dioxide capture by means of amine
absorption process is simulated and the influence of different parameters on the performance of the
process is studied. The optimum process conditions for the designed process is obtained and it is
concluded that carbon dioxide capture from this power plant may lead to a considerable reduction
in the country’s greenhouse gas emissions and may also be considered as a cheap substitution for
the associated gases which are currently injected into Iranian oil wells which are in the second half
of their production lives.
