Gas-liquid flow in a cylindrical bubble column was simulated with a 2D steady state CFD model.
The importance of using the bubble population balance model for such simulations was illustrated.
In order to make the model better, different turbulence models (RNG and standard k- model),
interpolating schemes (second and first order upwind), and variety of bubble diameters were
examined and compared. The best agreement with experimental data was captured by using the
RNG k- turbulence model, second order upwind and population balance approach. The model
predicted the mean bubble diameter radial profile which confirms the experimental observations.
