A kinetic study of the low ttemperature (up to 300 ◦C) water–gas shift (WGS)) reaction over a Pt/CeO2Al2O3 catalyst has bbe een carried out. Twotypeof rate expressions (Langmuuir–Hinshelwood and Elay Rideal) based onn possible reaction sets, originated from the associiaative and direct oxidation mechanisms, were e d derived. Six models were used to fit the experimental l ddata over a wide range of reaction condition.WWGS rate expressions based on the carbonate associ iaative mechanism were found to provide an i immproved description for WGS kinetic data.It was pprroposed that the kineticscould be explainened based on the carbonate associative mmeechanism with H O * +O* ↔ 2OH * as the r ratedetermining step.
