Some of the typical turbulence models were tested for Tehran refinery cat alytic reforming unit in
order to find t he best model. Experim ent al dat a of pressure drop through the react ors was used for
accuracy m easurem ent of applied models and somehow for validat ion of CFD results. Several runs
with different turbulence models were established upon a unique geometry of the working system.
Effects of additional import ant factors like wall roughness, w all functions, Y-plus on the flow field
and t otal pressure drop were st udied as well. Am ong turbulence m odels test ed, it is found that the
RSM model may be the best crude model to predict tot al pressure drop. Considering wall
roughness, we found t hat the well-known standard k-ε model is also capable of estim ating pressure
drop wit h acceptable confidence bound.
