In this paper, we investigate different wideband Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation methods for directsequence spread-spectrum (DSSS) signals. DOA estimation of DSSS sources is challenging since the information-bearing signals are buried in noise for the purpose of covert communications, thus making their detection extremely difficult, let alone estimating their DOAs. Experimental simulations show that an old approach of steered minimum variance method (STMV) achieves the best results compared to other state-of-the-art subspace and sparse methods, even at adverse scenarios when signal to noise ratio (SNR) is -20dB.
