Abstract—Synthetic aperture radar is a high resolution microwave band imaging method used in various areas of remote sensing. In this paper a novel segmentation method for synthetic aperture radar images based on statistical modeling is presented. Skewed alpha-stable distribution is used for image modeling. Performance of the proposed method is compared to different statistical models and other texture analysis methods. Simulation results show the proposed algorithm’s superiority to other methods
