The most common way to control production rate from a reservoir is using a choke to reduce both formation draw down and flow rate. Flow through chokes could be classified into two main categories, critical and sub-critical. In literature lots of studies have been done to introduce an equation or correlation for prediction of choke flow performance, especially in critical region, while in practice, sub-critical flow is more common. This will be more significant in oil field that uses higher choke sizes such as Iranian hydrocarbon reservoirs.
In this study, 62 data of producing wells from 10 gas condensate fields in Iran were employed to establish a high-quality generalized multiphase flow choke correlation for sub-critical flow conditions for seven different choke sizes between 40/64 inch and 192/64 inch. Through non-linear regression of data points a general Gilbert type formula was developed with the average absolute error of 11.51.
