The decolorization process of the acid blue 161 dye (C40H20CrN4O10S2
.H.
2Na) was carried out by
bubbling ozone at the bottom of an airlift reactor containing the dye solution. The effect of initial
dye concentration, ozonated gas flow rate and solution pH on color removal efficiency was
studied. The color removal efficiency was followed by measuring the dye concentration at
different times of the decolorization process. It decreases with increasing the initial dye
concentration and pH. Ozonation was found to be an effective process for decolorization of acid
blue 161 dye. After 30 min of ozone treatment, decolorization was nearly completed to a value of
97.16 %. This work also revealed that the applied gas flow rate has a considerable effect on
decolorization by ozone in airlift reactor.
