In this work, we have compared the performance of two commercial and most common electrode substrates: Toray and Ballard carbon paper. Two electrodes were fabricated with the same structure by these substrates. Then these electrodes were used to make separate MEAs. The performance of these MEAs was investigated in a PEMFC single cell at the same operation conditions. The results show that the Ballard substrate has higher performance at higher humidity. It’s because of the special microstructure of Ballard substrate that cause this substrate has a higher resistance to flooding.
