In this work, optimization of microwave transesterification of rainbow trout
(Oncorhynchus mykiss) waste oil was investigated for biodiesel production. Effect
of various reaction parameters, namely reaction time (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 min),
microwave power level (100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 W), methanol to oil molar
ratio (3, 6, 9, 12, and 15), and catalyst concentration (0.3, 0.6, 0.9, 1.2, and 1.5%)
were investigated. The optimum condition of microwave transesterification was at
the microwave power level of 300 W, methanol to oil molar ratio of 12, catalyst
concentration of 1.2 %, and reaction time of 5 min.
