Residual Stresses show significant effects on the engineering structures which can be led to change of the design parameters. To study the influence of the residual stresses on the structural integrity, a reliable source to generate such stresses is of importance. It is even more critical when production of repeatable residual stress fields is required. Residual stresses of different sources such as welding and shot peening have been studied in the literature. Quenching is a technique that is usually used to harden the samples. However, components. it has been employed to induce residual stresses into the engineering In the current work, quenching was used to generate residual stresses. In the process, the specimen was heated up to a certain degree and then was cooled down using water spray. To correctly predict the residual stress fields, a fair estimation of the convection heat transfer coefficient was essential. Therefore, the temperature alteration was recorded against time. This information was then used in a finite element simulation to calibrate the heat transfer coefficient. Having the correct heat transfer coefficient would result in a reliable residual stress prediction.
