Rupture disc is an important part of a gas gun. It is used as a fast response valve which burst at a predefined pressure. To avoid fragmentation and to have a better control on rupture pressure, a groove is usually graved on the disc. In this work circumferential and cross grooves are studied. For this purpose, Phosphor Bronze discs with a diameter of 40mm are ruptured under gas pressure. The circumferential grooves are 270 degrees arcs with a mean diameter of 22mm. The effects of groove width and thickness on the rupture pressure are studied experimentally and the effects of other parameters such as thickness are studied by simulation. For both grooves there is a direct nonlinear relationship between the rupture pressure and groove thickness. The groove width variation has less effect on the rupture pressure than the thickness variation. Some discs with cross grooves are not fully opened because they have four independent failure paths and these paths should open simultaneously. However, having only one failure path, circumferential ones are fully opened.
